Program Overview

Bring your students to the Lincoln Marsh to participate in hands-on, experience based lessons that demonstrate the values of wetlands. During this four-hour field trip, your students learn that wetlands improve water quality, control flooding, are an important habitat, and provide a place for recreational activities.

This program addresses Illinois State Learning Standards for late elementary. The Wetlands Education Program can accommodate groups of up to 100 students. The best time to schedule the program is late April through early June. Space fills up quickly so book your program early. Please call the Lincoln Marsh office (630.871.2810) for details and pricing.

The Wetlands Education Program was developed as a collaborative project between the Wheaton Park District’s Lincoln Marsh Natural Area and Wheaton-Warrenville Community Unit School District #200. However, the program is open to any group that would like to participate. Each spring more than 1,000 students will participate in this model program.

This wetlands education online feature was created by the Manager of Interpretation & Natural Resources and was made possible by federal grant funds awarded to District #200 by the Illinois State Board of Education from the Technology Literacy Challenge Grant Fund. As a Community Partner in this technology program, the Wheaton Park District continues its commitment to advancing wetlands education and environmental education.
